Active@ Disk Editor is a simple freeware utility for viewing and editing raw disk sectors on hard drives, solid state drives and other devices. It displays low-level information in both binary and text modes at the same time. For advanced computer users, this solution is ideal for viewing and analysing the contents and structure of your storage devices.
Display Parsed Records with the Enhanced Template View
Using the template view, you can easily view detailed information about the most important areas of the drive. This makes editing and viewing easier, since you can easily navigate to a specific point of interest, and the appropriate template will be chosen automatically. For example, if you want to view the master boot record or a boot sector on any NTFS, FAT, Ext2 or Ext3 drive, all you need to do is select the template from the dropdown menu. When you’re editing the contents of the disk using hexadecimal, Unicode or ASCII data in the templates pane, any changes will be automatically synchronized with the other views to provide an up to date view of all your data.
Easy Comparison and Editing
A lot of records, such as boot sectors, allow for multiple copies. Using the templates view, the program will automatically detect any records that support copies before displaying both the primary and copy values. This way, you can compare the data and change the values, either directly or by adding an offset value in the offset column.
In addition to side-by-side comparison, Active@ Disk Editor helps you visualize raw drive data with user-friendly color codes and tool tips. With individual template fields colored in the hexadecimal view, you will have a quick and convenient overview of all data on that area of the drive. Current fields are also highlighted, and you can simply hover the mouse over a field to view a tooltip providing additional information.
Support for Multiple File Systems
Active@ Disk Editor provides built-in support for most mainstream file systems, including NTFS, FAT, FAT32, exFAT, Ext2 and Ext3, which also means it works with any drive formatted under Windows or Linux. The templates view provides templates for different types of records for different file systems as well.
On top of support for multiple file systems, Active@ Disk Editor provides a versatile solution complete with fast navigation points and instant access to editing functions. For example, you can fill a selection with a pattern, zero in on individual bytes and much more. You can also work with a wide range of different representations of your data thanks to full support for hexadecimal data, ASCII text and Unicode content. Again, any changes made to either of these panes will be synchronized with the others automatically.
Finding specific tracks and data couldn’t be easier too, thanks to the provision of bookmarks that prevent you from getting lost while navigating the drive. Other features include a highly effective and customizable search function, the ability to access hyperlinks in templates and work with disk images rather than only physical storage devices.
Active@ Disk Editor is a member of LSoft’s line-up of hard disk tools and, as such, it fully integrates with data recovery software Active@ Undelete. Find out more by visiting http://disk-editor.org/.
